It’s that time of year when we start thinking about how thankful we are for all our blessings. Thanksgiving is a special time to remember all the things we should be grateful for, but what about the rest of the year? How do we keep a grateful heart all year long?
I will be the first to admit it is not always easy to see the little blessings God bestows upon us. We naturally notice the big ones, but the little ones seem to drift under our radar. However, while we are looking for the big ones, we inevitably miss the small ones. And it’s the small ones that give breath to each day.
I will also admit that keeping a grateful heart is a challenge not only throughout the year, but during different seasons of my life. When life gets busy and hard and crazy, I forget to stop for just a moment and be grateful.
I forget to be thankful for the little breaths of blessings blowing through my day.
So, how can we keep a grateful heart all year round?
- Pray – A simple thank you in the beginning before we get to the laundry list of needs.
- Share – Don’t keep the blessing to ourselves, share it with others. Tell them what you are thankful for that day. Post it on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Sharing your blessing helps others recognize their own blessings.
- Write it down – Make a list. Keep track of each blessing that comes to mind. Writing it down helps our minds remember.
- Remind yourself – Go back to that list, especially on days when you find it hard to find a blessing, and remember what God has done for you already.
- Rejoice – Praise God for the blessings. Rejoice in the giving.
