We are so good at complicating something to the point that we feel like we can’t come close to doing it right. We think there must be a right way to pray and we definitely don’t want to do it wrong. But could prayer really be as simple as having a conversation with God?
What do we need in order to pray?
We need a prayer journal, we need a war room, we have to be on our knees, our eyes must be closed, we have to say “Lord” or “Jesus” in every sentence, we have to stop and be still to pray…
While all of those things may be a good things, the only thing we truly need to pray is a desire to share our thoughts, ourselves, with our heavenly Father.
Prayer is simply having a conversation with God.
You can pray laying in bed in the still of the night, driving to the grocery store, sitting at your desk at work, walking on the treadmill, washing dishes, on the floor in a closet, or in a crowd at the mall.
We have conversations with our friends in all of these places without thinking twice about it. So why do we think having a conversation with our very best Friend has to be any different?
I thank God every time I remember you.
Philippians 1:3
A simple “Thank you, God” when you think of someone or a blessing you recognize is a prayer of thanksgiving. A communication between you and your heavenly Father. A simple conversation of gratitude.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.
Philippians 4:6
This is one of my favorite verses. There is so much in this verse! How can we live a life without fear, anxiety, and worry? Simply by spending time talking with God.
We express our gratitude, we talk about what is going on in our life, we ask for help, and we listen for to the response.
We have a conversation with our very best friend.
