I have been reading through the book of Job and I am so glad to be done. Simply because I did not have a chance to really stop and dig into it. Half the time I really didn’t understand the dialog between Job and his “friends”. But then the Lord spoke and it was very clear – God is God and I am not.
Job did not understand why all these horrible things were happening to him. He voiced his anger, his frustration, and his desperation, but He never spoke against God. He remained faithful throughout his turmoil.
However, he did want answers and God did respond.
Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?
Job 38:4-5
The Lord spoke for four chapters answering Job. Reminding him that God is creator and that His knowledge surpasses our own. He sees every little detail and weaves them all together.
However, the Lord spoke, He never explained the reason why.
Job finally sees that God and his purposes are more than he could or needed to understand. God does not allow us to suffer for no reason, but His reason may not be ours to understand.
You asked, “Who is this that obscures my counsel without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.
Job 42:3
This journey we are on is one that can only be made in faith. Sometimes we will have answers, but most of the time we will not. There are times when all we can do put one foot in front of the other and keep moving. However, when those steps are made with a foundation of faith underneath them, they become just a little bit easier to take.
Each one of us has a different journey, a different path to take. However, God is there walking it with us. He sees what we cannot see and knows what we cannot know.
I do not need to understand the reasons why in order to take those steps.
I just need to remember that God is God and I am not.

This is beautiful!! I love the passage and I completely agree. As mere humans we get so anxious to have all the answers but God has a purpose for everything and trusting in HIM and HIS plan is what we need to do!

Thank you, Melissa! The trusting is hard some times, isn’t it.

I read Job at the beginning of last year (was trying to complete the whole bible chronologically in a year and only made it through Joshua) and I felt the same way about the book of Job. There is a lot going on and if you aren’t in the right mind you can totally miss all the wisdom and blessing it provides. 🙂
